Using LinkedIn to find a job: a workshop story from the University of Luxembourg

Every semester, I have the joy of connecting with students at the University of Luxembourg to explore how social media can become a true professional asset. This past Monday morning, I hosted a workshop titled “LinkedIn – The Best Social Media to Find a Job“. And like every time, the experience left me energised, inspired, and deeply grateful.

Follow on LinkedIn

But first, a small confession. I realise I haven’t always had the chance to share all the behind-the-scenes stories recently. Sometimes, life moves fast, and I find myself already living the next moment before I can properly tell the last one. But here I am, taking a moment to dive into this one with you.

The workshop brought together a new group of students, all curious and open to learning how LinkedIn can help them land their next opportunity. We started with the basics, focusing on what makes LinkedIn such a powerful platform in today’s job market.

Together, we explored:

  • How to search and filter jobs effectively
  • What makes a LinkedIn profile stand out
  • The importance of a clear headline and strong summary
  • How to start building a professional network, even as a student
  • Why LinkedIn is more than just an online CV

Throughout the session, I shared a mix of practical tips and personal stories, the kind that spark real conversations. There were questions, smiles, and a lot of note-taking. Most of all, there was a shared sense of purpose.

We also briefly touched on a concept that will take centre stage in our next workshop: E-reputation. I offered a small teaser about the power of managing your online image and how a strong, positive digital presence can help jobs find you, not just the other way around.

As we wrapped up, we took our traditional group photo with the students who were happy to be part of it. It is always a lovely moment of connection and celebration. Thank you to each student who participated, brought their energy, and made the session meaningful.

And of course, my heartfelt thanks to Romain Raux from the Career Centre. Your support and collaboration are what make these workshops possible semester after semester.

To anyone reading this who is exploring their professional path: LinkedIn can be a powerful ally. Start where you are. Show up authentically. Keep building.
